Engagement rings come in different styles. The traditionally worn engagement ring is the solataire rings, which has a single diamond. Although they look the same but they differ in prong settings and bands. The engagement ring with side stones is another style set. This kind of engagement ring has small stones on the sides besides the large diamond embedded in the center. Trinity rings is also another style of an engagement ring which is sometimes called as trinity or trilogy rings. This type of rings have a center big stone with a set of diamonds horizontally embeded on it. Those three diamonds represents the past, present and future of the couple, while some give a religious significance on the arrangement.
Like all other jewelry, engagement rings vary in price depending on the design and material used. If the engagement ring comes with a gemstone, normally the price will be higher as the value of the stone will be added. The price of the gemstone, like any other ring vary in the type and quality of the gem. Diamonds, have a standard value according to its carat weight, clarity, cut and color. Other gems like ruby, emerald, sapphire and so on have another system of setting a value.
There is also a wedding ring set available for the couple. The set includes the wedding rings and the engagement ring . In some cases, the engagement ring will not look complete without the wedding ring attached to it. Although the wedding ring should not be worn before matrimony, these are being sold together. After the wedding the wife may wear both rings together or separately. But normally, the wife choses to weld the rings together to reduce the chance of loosing the ring. A trio set is often sold cheaper than buying the rings separately. The trio set contains a ladie’s engagement ring, and the wedding bands for him and her.
Engagement rings are traditionally given by the soon-to-be-groom to the love of their life. It is given to the woman as a betrothal by a man while he proposes marriage or after the woman has accepted the proposal. In some countries like Nordic the engagement rings are worn by both men and women. Both rings are usually in a plain band of a metal, and the engagement ring becomes a wedding ring for a man. The ring represents a formal acceptance of both partners for a future marriage. Engagement rings can be bought by a man, the couple, or by each other.
Engagement rings are usually worn in the left ring finger by the ladies in United Kingdom, United States, Canada and Australia. The women in Poland and Ukraine beg to differ, they wear it on their right ring finger. In Germany however, the engagement ring is worn in the left ring finger and transferred to the right ring finger upon marriage.
