Look After Your Mobile Phone

We never think it will happen to us, and then it does. In my case this has happened twice. I’m talking about losing my mobile phone.

The first time was the result of a few too many beers on a boys night out. I’d been on my mobile while on my way home in a taxi and I think I must have left it on the back seat. I didn’t realise what had happened until the following day when I called the cab firm only to hear that they didn’t have my phone. It suddenly became very clear how much of my life was actually stored on that little device.

I vowed that I would be far more careful in future and get myself some mobile phone insurance to cover the cost of replacement. The cost of replacement was actually the last thing on my mind as I was more concerned by the lost telephone numbers and contact details.

We’re all guilty of doing it. We’ve all gotten into the habit of simply entering someones contact details into our telephones and rarely do we back these up to our computers or even to an old fashioned address book.

I then went and lost my replacement phone on another night out, but this time I wasn’t drunk. I was convinced that a pickpocket had lifted my mobile from my pocket in the nightclub. The truth is that I probably dropped it on the floor when removing cash to pay for drinks at the bar. I was in a nightclub so I told the bar staff and security guys but, unfortunately, my phone didn’t turn up.

Unfortunately I had not followed my own advice and hadn’t taken out a mobile phone insurance policy. But, subsequent to my previous experience I had kept a record of all the new phone numbers and contact details that were on the device so the loss wasn’t quite as disastrous as it had been the previous time.

You may be wondering if there is a moral to this tale? Not really. But I recommend that you routinely backup all of the contact details stored on your phone and get yourself some insurance cover.
